Lifeline Shanghai – Helpline Volunteer Training

On March 23rd, Fiona Yapp, our Clinic Director here at The Essential Learning Group, led a child protection training session for the dedicated Helpline Volunteers at Lifeline Shanghai.

As a Child Protection Social Worker and a trained Helpline Counsellor for a children’s charity in the UK, Fiona was able to support the volunteers to enhance their communication skills with children experiencing crisis and abuse, and implement safeguarding strategies that are effective in the international environment of Shanghai. Fiona’s training session also explored the developing legal framework for child protection in China, with a particular focus on the important new Domestic Violence Law that came into effect on 1st March 2016.

Lifeline Shanghai is a volunteer based non-profit organization that operates an English speaking Helpline for the international community. Lifeline Shanghai was started in 2004 and is affiliated with Lifeline International.
